Assistant Professor of Philosophy Position at SUNY Oswego

The Department of Philosophy at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy.  Date of Appointment:  August 2022.

Area of Specialization: Epistemology.    Area of Competence: Open.

The Assistant Professor of Philosophy will have a strong research trajectory in epistemology, as well as relevant teaching experience in epistemology, and some of: metaphysics, philosophy of religion, and Eastern philosophy. In addition to these, the Assistant Professor may teach a variety of courses within the department, which can include philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, or courses that will serve to broaden the diversity of the curriculum of our department (e.g., philosophy of race). Normal semester teaching responsibilities will be one large course and two smaller courses. Student advising, working with students on improving writing skills, and university service are also expected. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.  Applications received prior to January 10, 2022 will receive priority consideration.

Required Qualifications:

·      Ph.D. in Philosophy or related discipline at time of appointment

·      Strong research trajectory in epistemology.

·      Relevant teaching experience in some of: epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of religion, Eastern Philosophy.

·      Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

·      Clearly articulated understanding and commitment to equity, inclusion, diversity issues (evidenced by diversity statement)

Preferred Qualifications:

·      Ability to teach a variety of courses, such as metaphysics, philosophy of religion, Eastern philosophy, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, or courses that will serve to broaden the diversity of the curriculum of our department, such as philosophy of race.
